with Francesco Turrisi & Tolü Makai
Step into an evening where conversation and music intertwine. Host Andrea Splendori brings his Social Fabric Podcast to the stage of the Whale Theatre for a special live edition with internationally acclaimed musician Francesco Turrisi.
Francesco is a Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalist, often described as a “musical alchemist,” who effortlessly moves between jazz, early music, and the traditional sounds of the Mediterranean. Born in Turin and based in Dublin, his career has taken him from performing baroque harpsichord on international stages to touring globally with singer Rhiannon Giddens, with whom he won a Grammy in 2022. His curiosity for sound and rhythm has led him to explore instruments such as the lute, accordion, piano, and frame drums, tracing their journeys across cultures and centuries.
Tolü Makay is an alternative genre-bending artist known for her raw storytelling. Since her breakout EP Being, she’s carved a unique space in Irish music, captivating audiences from viral TV moments to major live stages. Highlights include opening for Gabrielle at the 3Arena, performing for the President of Ireland, and collaborating with both the National Symphony Orchestra and the RTE Concert Orchestra. She's also graced events hosted by Dermot O’Leary and the Dubai EXPO, earning praise from figures like Graham Norton. Her voice continues to resonate across borders.
In this live conversation, Andrea will delve into The Art of Noise — exploring the origins of music, the evolution of instruments, and the hidden histories they carry. The evening will blend storytelling and discussion with live musical performances, offering a rare chance to hear ancient sounds in a modern context.
Prepare for a night of rhythm, history, and resonance — a celebration of music not just as entertainment, but as a window into who we are.
