Lean on me

When we decided to create the MindfulWest Run, a 240km traversing Ireland over three days, we had a vision: create a monumental task and encourage anyone to join us.

"But I have never run more than 10km in my whole life!

How am I supposed to run 240km?"

Well, you don't have to.

Come along and do what you can.

Some of us will do the full distance, some of us will do half of it, some of us will help whichever way we can.

That was the answer.

As in life, we are all different, we all trying to do the best we can and I believe that if we are put in the right environment with the right group of people we can achieve amazing things.

That was the spirit of the run.

The aim: mental health awareness and fundraising for two great charities.

What happened during the three days was beyond what I had envisioned and visualised when I initially had the idea.

While achieving personal best - everybody run much more than they had ever dreamt of - lives were changed, friendships were made, emotions were released.

I am creating a documentary mini series of this incredible journey that went far beyond the physical task, in the hope of capturing the importance of connections, friendship and conversations.

"You just call on me brother, when you need a hand

We all need somebody to lean on

I just might have a problem that you'll understand

We all need somebody to lean on"
